Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 13th East Asia Summit (EAS) in Singapore on Thursday. Leaders of 18 countries of Asia Pacific region, which include 10 ASEAN countries and India, US, Russia, Australia, South Korea, China, Japan and New Zealand, held informal talks during lunch retreat ahead of the plenary session.

Current Chairman country Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in his opening statement that all leaders had good discussions at the lunch retreat. He said it is a good way for leaders to discuss in the frank and candid environment on ways to deepen strategic trust among the member countries.

He said that EAS has become an integral part of open and inclusive ASEAN-centric regional architecture comprising 18 countries representing more than one half of world’s population and GDP.

Earlier, today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had interaction with ASEAN leaders at the ASEAN-India informal breakfast summit, which he called a great meeting.

He expressed happiness over the fact that India’s ties with ASEAN are strong and contributing to a peaceful and prosperous planet. Mr Modi reaffirmed cooperation in the maritime domain and centrality of trade and investment towards the prosperity of Indo-Pacific.

Later, Mr Modi met 20 cadets from NCC of India. These cadets are visiting Singapore as part of an International cadet exchange programme. Prime Minister also met and felicitated the winning teams of India Singapore Hackathon.

He said platforms like these serve as an excellent opportunity for youngsters to showcase their work. The Hackathon was announced during the Prime Minister’s visit to Singapore in June this year.

The Prime Minister has since left for home.
