Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Narayan Dutt Tiwari, passed away in New Delhi on Thursday after a prolonged illness. He was 93.
He breathed his last at a private hospital.
Narayan Dutt Tiwari served thrice as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and once Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
He also served as Union Minister for External Affairs, Finance, Petroleum and Commerce and Industry. He also served as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have expressed grief over the demise of ND Tiwari.
In a tweet, Mr Kovind said, as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and later Uttarakhand, he contributed much to the development and public welfare.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also condoled the demise of Mr Tiwari.
In a tweet, Mr Modi said, N D Tiwari was a towering leader and was known for his administrative skills.
The Prime Minister said, the departed leader will be remembered for his efforts towards industrial growth and working for the progress of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, a state he steered in its initial days.
BJP president Amit Shah said, N D Tiwari fought against the British during the Indian freedom struggle and served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Mr Shah said, his death is an irreparable loss for Indian politics.Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has also expressed grief over his death.
