In Jammu and Kashmir, polling is underway for the second phase of urban local body elections in the State. Brisk polling is going on in Six districts of Jammu Division where polling is being held today.
Voting that began at 6 this morning, will end at 4 PM. Polling is underway in 270 polling stations in Kashmir Division and 274 in Jammu Division. Brisk polling is taking place at several polling booths.
Peaceful and orderly voting is on in 49 municipal wards of Kashmir valley in second phase of 4 phased polls of urban local bodies in the state.

Foolproof security arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the polls. Of the 1,029 candidates – 881 in Jammu division and 148 in Kashmir division – are in the fray for 263 municipal wards, including 49 in Kashmir and 214 in Jammu.

A total of 65 candidates – 61 of them from Kashmir valley – have already won the polls uncontested, while in 56 wards – all in the valley – no nomination was received, so no polling is taking place in those places. As many as 270 polling stations have been designated for voting in Kashmir Division and 274 in Jammu Division. The total electorate in these wards is 3,46,980 – 1,28,104 in Jammu Division belonging to 18 Municipal bodies and 2,18,876 in Kashmir Division of five Municipal bodies.

In Ramban, polling has been cancelled in Ward No.2 due to the death of a candidate, Azaad Singh Raju because of heart attack when he was about to leave his house for casting his vote.
