Madhyapradesh Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel today blessed newly-married couples at a mass marriage programme organized by the Patidar community at Jharkheda village in Sehore district. Governor Smt. Patel said on the occasion that such mass marriages were
the need of the hour. Such events set an example of removing caste-based discrimination.
Terming child marriage a social evil, Governor Smt. Patel said that child marriage is a curse. Such marriages can be
stopped only by generating awareness in the society. She said that child marriages can be stopped if the information of correct age of the bride and groom-to-be is known.

She said that such mass marriages have created a new awareness among the people in the society and has
strengthened social harmony. The rich and poor gather at one place and get their children married under one roof which also checks
unnecessary expenditure. With this saved amount the newly-wed couple can shape their future.
Marriage of 49 young men and women were solemnized in the programme.
